Extreme weather is no match for Kalwall’s translucent daylighting systems
During this year’s Severe Weather Awareness Week (April 20-26), we wanted to remind everyone how Kalwall’s translucent daylighting systems keep your building safe and help mitigate damage from natural weather events.

Global warming has intensified severe weather episodes such as tornadoes, hurricanes, hail and extreme heat/cold. And these events can impact your building’s envelope. Our translucent skyroofs, skylights, facades, and canopies offer the ultimate daylighting solution while being very rugged and durable. All are designed to withstand nature’s wrath and protect the building’s fenestration while providing energy efficient, perfectly diffuse daylight. Here’s how they hold up to the elements:
Tornadoes/Hurricanes/Impact Resistance:
Excellent windborne debris protection – Kalwall protects occupants and interiors unlike most glass and polycarbonate and is used in high resiliency design. Our hurricane-resistant panels meet or exceed the toughest criteria and standards including Blast Resistant Systems that meet the DOD UFC 4-010-01 Anti-Terrorism Force Protection (ATFP) criteria. Not only do they withstand high wind and snow loads, but they also man-safe.

Extreme Heat/Cold:
Kalwall’s FRP composite insulated panels are manufactured to last and are weather tested for UV, high humidity and cold environments.
Our custom engineered panels keep the heat in when it’s cold outside. No other fenestration product performs better at reducing HVAC heating loads. Our panels improve solar heat gain control by as much as 900% compared to traditional insulated glass units.
Kalwall Weatherable Coating (KWS) technology aids in the panel’s self-cleaning properties and provides additional resistance to UV and heat exposure for lasting performance.
Fire protection – Kalwall panels are comprised of a thermoset FRP/aluminum composite that will not melt. We have Class A and burning brand options to prevent flame spread in the event of fire. Our panels also meet the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) Building Materials Testing Standard.
