Removable Roofs

A ROOF THAT DAYLIGHTS THE SPACE AND OPENS WHEN YOU NEED ACCESS

Some buildings are designed around the equipment inside them. Water and wastewater treatment systems, pumps, process equipment, and imaging machines all have to be installed, serviced, and eventually replaced through the roof, often more than once over the life of the building.

A Kalwall removable Skyroof gives those spaces both things they need: daylight through normal operation, and easy access when the equipment has to move. The same translucent roof that fills the interior with diffused, glare-free light is built to come off quickly, in its entirety or across large areas, and go back as often as the work requires.

The roof shouldn't stop the job. A Kalwall rep can help you spec one that won't.

Where Removable Roofs Are Specified

Removable Skyroofs are specified wherever large equipment sits under the roofline and has to be reached for service or replacement. The largest demand is in water and wastewater treatment. Beyond that, common settings include pump stations, manufacturing, healthcare, breweries and distilleries, data centers, power plants, scientific research, and chemical plants.

In every case the goal is the same: move equipment in and out as often as the operation demands, without giving up daylight in between. A translucent removable roof does what an opaque access hatch cannot. It daylights the space through the long stretches between access events, which is most of the building’s working life.

Design Considerations

Removable roofs work best when access is planned into the design rather than added afterward. Sharing a few things early lets your Kalwall representative configure the right system from the start: the equipment that needs access, how often the space has to be opened, the configuration that suits the building, and your daylighting goals for the space below.

Available in center-ridge, sawtooth, shed, and canopy configurations, so the removable area follows the building’s geometry rather than forcing the building to fit the roof.
