Kalwall+ Nanogel® Daylights UK Office Block
Another Kalwall+ Nanogel project in the UK has been built in Hemsworth, an old, mining town in Yorkshire. The Wakefield local authorities commissioned Atkins architects to incorporate into their designs the very latest thinking and technology in sustainable energy.
The latest iteration of the Kalwall wall system was designated because of its advanced energy performance and unique ability to distribute evenly diffused daylight into the offices without shadows, glare and hotspots or the need for curtains or blinds. The energy performance of the cladding system is dramatically enhanced with Kalwall+ Nanogel. Nanogel, the silica aerogel manufactured by the Cabot Corporation, is the world's lightest and best-insulating translucent material. By using it within the Kalwall panels, a U-value of 0.28 (W/m2.K) is achieved. Externally, the cladding presents the appearance of clean and unfettered, full-height walls.
Kalwall+ Nanogel provides designers with the technology to have translucent facades or roofs as energy efficient as a solid wall and to introduce daylight through surfaces which would normally be opaque.
Kalwall is supplied and installed by sole UK distributor Stoakes Systems, Ltd. Since its introduction into the UK, Kalwall has been specified for over 200 major projects, ranging from schools and sports halls to public and industrial buildings.
