The mark of a successful tech transfer is
when space-age materials show up at the Comfort Inn. Such is the case with
aerogel, that super-lightweight solid (it's 96 per cent air) that's been
employed by NASA for everything from insulation to cosmic dust collection. Now
Cabot Corp. is using it to create Nanogel windows, which are translucent, as
energy-efficient as a solid wall, and reduce noise twice as well as
double-panes. The first Nanogel installation is a pool enclosure at the Comfort
Inn in Manchester, New Hampshire, which was set to open in
December.
